Ruth is focused on finding her sister in a world that has grown visually foreign to her. Her sacrifice has left her in a world with no time for personal style or identity. Ruth has only seem styles change as visitors come and go from the prison. She notices small changes on television or in magazines, but doesn’t have the real life experience to understand what has changed. Ruth hasn’t been able to notice the changes she has gone through in 15 years and as a result, we feel echoes of arrested development as she puts herself together. Her clothing is assembled from second hand sources, with the goal of efficiency and practicality first. Ruth does enjoy a bit of nail polish, and earrings though - symbols of a new found freedom.
